The Rowen Region is committed to fostering workforce development that meets the needs of its dynamic economy. At the forefront of this effort is Partnership Gwinnett County’s Talent Council — a collaborative group of education, business, government and community leaders working to align workforce training with business demands. By ensuring that local education programs reflect industry requirements, the Talent Council creates a pipeline of skilled professionals ready to succeed in high-demand sectors.

Gwinnett County also hosts regular Workforce Forums, engaging stakeholders in sector-specific discussions that generate strategies to enhance the region’s talent pipeline. By collaborating with the Atlanta Regional Workforce Development Board, Gwinnett leverages regional partnerships to strengthen Metro Atlanta’s competitiveness in the global economy.

Georgia’s Quick Start program, the nation’s No. 1 workforce training initiative, provides customized, no-cost training for businesses creating jobs in the state. Complementing this, the Georgia Chamber’s Center for Workforce and Talent Preparedness leverages its statewide network to build robust talent pipelines by connecting employers, educators and communities. The Metro Atlanta Chamber further strengthens workforce efforts through talent attraction initiatives, education policy advocacy and resources like the 2023 Talent Supply Report — offering insights to help businesses thrive in Georgia’s competitive job market.

Post-Secondary Schools that Leave a Mark

The Rowen Region’s workforce pipeline is fueled by a robust higher-education ecosystem, with more than 20 colleges and universities fostering a high concentration of undergraduate and graduate-level degree completions. These premier institutions equip the local talent pool with the skills needed to drive innovation in agriculture, environment and medicine — Rowen’s key programmatic drivers.

The University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, ranked among the nation’s top 10, enhances this pipeline through its statewide UGA Cooperative Extension network, offering hands-on expertise and community resources. Additionally, UGA’s upcoming School of Medicine in Athens is set to expand the region’s influence in medical education and innovation.

The Georgia Institute of Technology further bolsters the local talent pipeline with its nationally ranked civil and environmental engineering program, which produced over 1,000 graduates between 2021 and 2024. These institutions ensure the Rowen Region is not only cultivating a skilled workforce but also advancing research and innovation that align with its strategic priorities in sustainability and health sciences.

Multicultural, Dedicated and Growing

Positioned for growth, the Rowen Region is at the epicenter of Georgia’s booming population. In 2024, Gwinnett County became only the second county in the state to surpass one million residents. Additionally, 43% of Georgia’s projected population growth is expected to come from the Rowen Region’s 11-county area by 2050, while 46% of the growth in the state’s prime working age population is expected to occur in the Rowen Region between 2023 and 2028.

Gwinnett County ranks among the most multicultural areas in the Southeastern United States. Its 84.9% diversity index highlights a community rich in cultural influences, with one in four residents born outside the U.S. This vibrant mix of perspectives and backgrounds strengthens the Rowen Region’s position as a hub for innovation, collaboration and global connectivity.
