The 2,000-acre community is set to include offices, research facilities, public spaces and residences.

Progress is being made on a massive “knowledge community” in Gwinnett County. A building permit application related to “Rowen – Phase 1” was recently filed. More than 2,000 acres are planned for the project set to include offices, research facilities, public spaces and residences. The development is envisioned as a site for research and development, product testing, higher education collaborations and more.“The site will be anchored by the Rowen Village, a vibrant space with a mix of offices, multi-family residential, community spaces, restaurants and the arts,” according to the project website.

The Rowen Foundation is leading the project. A groundbreaking and tree-planting ceremony was held in December 2022 to kick off phase 1.

The recently filed permit application is for the installation of a power service point for an irrigation system controller. The site in Gwinnett County, just north of State Route 316, is 35 miles from Atlanta and 33 miles from Athens.

Amid the construction, Rowen is making progress on its vision for collaborations with higher education entities. The project recently signed agreements with the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. More companies are in discussions to potentially join Rowen, according to the news outlet.
